Brexit

Is there a list anywhere of companies whose Directors supported/opposed Brexit?

Still struggling to make sense of this disaster, but I would like to use my money supporting those who are losing out through no fault of their own and boycotting those who (in my view) have contributed to this.

Does anyone know if there a list anywhere so that the 48% can vote with their money/support?

Tate & Lyle Sugars were very pro Brexit - mainly because they refine imported cane sugar and the rest of the EU refines home grown sugar beet, the EU placed tariffs on importing cane sugar and supported beet sugar production.

Here's a link to the letter that was printed in The Times in February this year backing Remain, listing the signatories and companies.

You shouldn't struggle to avoid Phones4U anyway. They went bust 2 years ago.

lummox · 01/11/2016 17:30

Ah yes. Just went back to the article and it referred to the founder of Phones4u. Quick wikipedia check suggests that it went bust in 2014 but some stores were taken over by vodaphone/ee.

That's an interesting link Informal. And will add Tate & Lyle to the avoid list.

I see Next sales have slipped 6%. I'm sure it's just a coincidence Wink

I can dream that it is linked!

Peter Hargreaves of Hargreaves lands down was a very prominent leave backer and spent a lot of money on the out campaign.

I am choosing not to invest with an investor with such a shite grasp of basic economics.

I am however tempted to go to wetherspoons and hope I develop food poisoning like last time. Then I actually cost them a lot of money.

Go ape bizarrely voted leave, I'll never go there again.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 03/11/2016 21:03

I am boycotting 2 local businesses that campaigned in favour of Leave - posters, banners etc.

UKIP are extremely active in my area (very low immigration, very little ethnic variety) Sad

Are you in S Yorks as well?

The boss of Timpsons was a Leaver. I'll go to an independent for my key cutting if I need any.

GloriaGaynor · 04/11/2016 00:01

Hargreaves Lansdown employees don't necessarily share his views and anyway he's stepped down. HL themselves distanced themselves from his personal campaign.

GloriaGaynor · 04/11/2016 00:02

Timpsons ruined a pair of very expensive shoes of mine, another reason to avoid them.

MardyBra · 04/11/2016 00:52

Just seen this list: inews.co.uk/essentials/news/politics/vote-leave-eu-referendum-youre-voting

No more shit Patisserie Valerie for me then.

I think what the nation needs most of all at the moment is unity. We need to unify brexiters and remainers. We need to unify clashes between judiciary and Government and Parliament. We need to unify companies who were pro or anti Brexit and even in families where people took a different view we need to come together.

GloriaGaynor · 04/11/2016 10:02

You can't unify Leavers and Remainers.

Me2017 · 04/11/2016 11:32

I think you can. We have always been a nation which comes together rather than a nation divided. We don't even have Catholics and Protestants killing each other in the UK any more. We live in harmony. We are very lucky and our national character is to get along with everyone.

All will be well and all will be well and all manner of things will be well.

We will just get on with it.

Unicornsarelovely · 04/11/2016 12:01

If the good Friday agreement goes and hard borders return to Northern Ireland the civil war is likely to restart.

Unicornsarelovely · 04/11/2016 12:02

And bullshit.

We've only got on because we had our revolution too early (17th not 18th century) and then united ish against Jonny foreigner.

Jacob Rees-Mogg is a founder and director of Somerset Capital.

Seemingly he didn't declare his interests in relation to some speeches in commons. "Jacob Rees-Mogg spoke in four debates in the Chamber in support of the tobacco, mining and oil and gas industries without declaring that he is a founder and director of a firm with multimillion-pound investments in the sectors."

He was only concerned about poor people, you see.

www.independent.co.uk/news/people/tory-backbench-mp-jacob-rees-mogg-failed-to-declare-interests-9923362.html

I wonder if he is making a bundle or thinks he will make a bundle after brexit?

He was talking about purging people from the Conservative party and flooding the Lords with 1,000 extra people to cancel vote. Was he always so concerned about the unelected Lords influencing legislation? Wasn't his Da one?

Cailleach1 · 04/11/2016 17:33

Not that I have the readies to use Somerset Capital.

gettingtherequickly · 04/11/2016 19:36

Mardybra, you read the list that links to, and the one after that for retainers and weep for what our fellow countrymen have done.

Ignored the experts, ffs, who ignores experts? We'll end up giving birth in the woods and biting off our umbilical cords.

LurkingHusband · 07/11/2016 14:37

The boss of Timpsons was a Leaver. I'll go to an independent for my key cutting if I need any.

The thing is, Timpsons - at least used to - offer a free suit dry clean for anyone who was unemployed and attending an interview.

There have also been more informed MNetters than me (not hard, admittedly) who said that Timpsons was very good to it's staff with career progression and apprenticeships. Despite (although I guess he would say "because of") their owner being a Tory.

MardyBra · 07/11/2016 14:44

Yes. I agree Timpsons have some progressive policies, including proactively hiring people with criminal records. It depends if you think the downsides of Brexit will outweigh their positives (which I do).

MardyBra · 07/11/2016 14:45

I totally agree gettingthere

MardyBra · 07/11/2016 14:49

for those who haven't seen it there is also the Stop Funding Hate campaign, aimed at targetting advertisers in pro-Leave publications like the Mail, Express etc.
