This may have been posted already, but definition from wikipedia (quickest - there are plenty other sources):

There is also Nicola Sturgeon, Leanne Wood, Ruth Davidson, Hillary Clinton, Angela merkel, Christine Lagard (sp) in rather prominent political positions.

Yep, it's really interesting. I don't know what we can take from it though. Margaret Thatcher came in under similar circumstances but managed to survive so it'll be interesting to see what happens with these ones.

That's actually what happened with Margaret Thatcher.....she was never intended to be Prime Minister.

Yes expendable, and have to be seen to be fearless and dynamic in a way that men just don't, so will take on ridiculous challenges to prove that their capable. I was explaining it to my dear father last week and although he dislikes/mistrusts feminism (I know I know), even he was listening.

I am interested in how this applies to Merkel though, I should probably look deeper into the circs around her election.

Bertrand, yes quite. She had no saviour though...I don't agree with her politics but she managed to weather the storm at the time.
