Got to say I was cynical about this - thought it was just the press cherry-picking the odd hapless individual. But I just followed a link to the Daily Mail's main article on "what does Brexit mean for you" and read the comments section. It's astounding. Perhaps 80% of the comments are expressing regret or fear about brexit, and these are getting large numbers of up-votes, whereas pro-brexit comments are getting down-voted.

A lot of people are complaining that they weren't properly informed by their newspaper of choice ...

There's a surprise! If only people had taken this seriously and done some research rather than voting based on what mum/Bill down the pub/Daily Mail says. The Leave politicians told ridiculous lies but more fool those who believed them.

I am so fucking sick of this. Endless threads about endless morons whingeing endlessly. The vote is cast, let's leave the hysteria behind and get on with it

You're missing the point kummer. The MORONS are those who voted without realising what they were voting for or who thought their vote wouldn't count.

Kummer I personally feed like I have to do something to make sure everyone knows that I did not contribute to this shit. There are 16m of us and counting, our voice needs to be heard.

Bookaboo hit the nail on the head! Gunting that is the perfect analogy. Those who will be most negatively affected by Brexit are those who voted for it. Farage is not a man of the people he is public schooled investment banker, BoJo is an Etonian and Gove is an Oxford educated former journalist- they are hardly the 'common man.'

I think it's an important phenomenon.

It seems likely that we will end up with a PM who isn't really that keen on invoking article 50 after all. That sounds like a politically difficult position to take, but it becomes much easier if it's true that large numbers of people woke up this morning with a political hangover.

I don't know that this IS true on a significant scale of course, but the Mail article seems to suggest that the media isn't making it up and that it's not an isolated phenomenon.

I have no regrets.
I know that we were right to leave the EU for all sorts of reasons which I think we have all discussed at length!

However, I do feel for people who are anxious about the economy because anxiety is horrible.

Can I just say to those who are worried:

1. Look at a 1 year or 3 month chart of the FTSE 100. You will see that it has not "plunged"
2. The pound did fall but it has since rallied a bit. Anyway, a low pound is largely good for the economy - good for our exports and therefore the economy in genersl. The down side is imported goods are more expensive. But it is by no means all negative.
3. As in all changes there are winners and losers. This change hits the banking sector and London the hardest. I am not at all pleased about that but nor do I think it is a national calamity.

1. If you have a real interest in British business and want a view from someone with an excellent track record please Google Neil Woodford. Look at his track record and then read what he is saying about Brexit.

God knows why Osborne hasn't said anything similar. Hopefully he is about to be replaced by somebody sensible like Leadsom.

I know the Bank of England came out to calm the market but it is outrageous that we have heard nothing from our Chancellor. No wonder people are panicky.

Luckily everyone else is still doing the jobs they are paid to do so we will be fine.

Some of those comments are jokes I think....
I think social media and 24 hour news, combined with government silence, is increasing anxiety.

I also think some people are suffering from buyer's remorse (post decision cognitive dissonance) and sleep deprivation!

I agree there may be some remain trolling on there, but it's too consistent not to represent something "real". I guess we will get some opinion polling on the subject soon enough.

Wouldn't surprise me if lots of people are experiencing regrexit. I know a few in RL.
They are blaming the poor remain campaign, I'm blaming their piss poor judgement still bitter and angry, hopefully it will fade soon

Daily Mail articles are BOLLOCKS. Daily Mail BTL comments are bollocks below bollocks.

DM comments section is obviously an unreliable sample. However, if you have, like me, committed the cardinal MN sin of occasionally reading the DM online you will notice that this is a highly unusual set of comments. There do genuinely seem to be leave voters out there who feel that they have been lied to.

To my mind, one of the few positives that could come out of this whole mess would be for DM readers to actually realise that they cannot expect unbiased political reporting from the print media. I'm sure a lot do know this, but I am always surprised how few people realise how completely partisan our press is.

Yes, this is what struck me. Before Thursday, BTL at the Mail would have been overwhelmingly pro-brexit. Of course it's a completely unrepresentative sample and has no statistical significance, but it's certainly an interesting reversal.

Of course the dominance of brexit voices BTL was partly due to astroturfing - the Guardian was also overrun with paid propagandists, and has been much less so since they all got their P45s on Friday morning. But the change of heart at the Mail is too large to be explained so cynically.

The Mail is just one aspect of this.

I have no regrets.

I don't expect or want sympathy, I have no one to blame but myself but I am regretting my decision and have done since 4am on Friday morning. I am not doing this to appease my conscience but just to say that the feeling is genuine for some. My RL best friend is the same we were both surprised that each other had voted leave (not the standard demographic of a leave voter) and both bitterly disappointed in ourselves. There you go. Flame away you can't make me feel worse than I already do. My guess that a huge swath of those voting leave now feel the same.

And I've never read the DM.

Zippy I don't think you should be flamed for regretting. As a Remainer it is massively disappointing to hear that but, I was fully aware before the vote that people would vote for the wrong reasons.

I went out and campaigned and I think I managed to challenge about 20 people's view on the 'facts' surrounding the NHS and free movement.
