Further EU negotiations won't happen says Juncker

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

From BBC news feed today (no direct story link is available as yet).

"British voters have to know there will be no kind of any negotiation. We have concluded a deal with the prime minister. He got the maximum he could receive, and we gave the maximum we could give, so there will be no kind of renegotiation."

Does strongly indicate that 'reforming the EU from within' is a bit of a non-starter.

Sorry for being a bit thick but can someone explain to me what having no eu reforms means?

What Juncker actually said was there would be no renegotiation on the deal Cameron secured in February so UK could not use a Brexit vote to secure better terms of membership. That wouldn't have prevented future agreement between EU members on reform.

New round of Turkey membership talks start on 30 June

This is old news. The EU agreed to reopen talks with Turkey on its EU membership back in October/November last year. Opening talks isn’t the same as closing them though.

To join the EU counties need to complete 33 of 35 policy "chapters" & meet standards of democracy, rights & the rule law. Then the veto means all existing countries must unanimously agree before a country can be admitted.

Turkey applied to join the EU in the 1980s & has only provisionally completed one chapter. So Turkey won't qualifies for EU membership for a very long time if ever, particularly as it is moving in the wrong direction with with democracy, rights & the rule of law.

Dream on.

I'd give up now. The people have sen through Cameron's attempt to ride two Turkish horses simultaneously
