Has anyone been influenced by the national Newspapers?

The Times: Remain
The Sunday Mail: Remain (they seem a bit inconsistent to me)
The Observer: Remain
The Guardian: Remain

The Sunday Times: Leave
The Sunday Telegraph: Leave
The Sun: Leave
The Daily Express: Leave

That's what I have followed so far. Do newspaper editorial endorsements matter? Do they sway anyone. Give anyone more confidence in their opinion?

Daily Mail is Leave.

I feel some of these papers are hedging their bets - namely Times/Sunday Times and Mail/Mail on Sunday.

I was heartened by the Money and Personal Finance Editor of The Guardian coming out for Brexit on Saturday.

He must have strong financial convictions to go against the rest of his paper.

Forgot to mention his name, Patrick Collinson, I think.

Yes, I noticed that Frank Fields argued for Brexit in the Guardian as well. He felt that a voting for Brexit would be in support of the poor.

So the papers really are all over the place. It's not clear cut.

No. The editors/owners are mostly going to go with whatever they believe their readership will favour except RM who has admitted he wants out because he has influence at Westminster and none in Brussels .

I think most people are fairly aware of the general leanings of specific newspaper readers, eg Guardian more left-wing, readers more likely to vote Remain, DM right-wing so more likely to be read by those in favour of Leave, so it's unlikely to be a surprise. The Times/Sunday Times is quite interesting though. Someone on another thread said the editor of the Mail on Sunday can't stand the editor of the Daily Mail so that's why they're on opposing sides! No idea if that's true...

FT is also remain I believe.

X-posted with lots of people. I think the comment and opinion sections are probably a more interesting read as they are able to give their own view, rather than just going along with the paper's general stance. There is so little in the way of factual information being presented that a lot of voters will probably be influenced by opinion. Not sure that this is a good thing though...

I'm a Guardian reader and in favour of LEAVE for left wing reasons.

It's quite blatant how biased the Guardian is particularly after the Jo Cox tragedy, which was exploited for their political agenda in such a disgraceful way.

No the Guardian does not influence me. I look around me and can make my own decision.

The issue isn't what their leader writers say now, but the drip-drip of stories about the EU and immigration stretching back a decade or more that have whipped up anti-Europe sentiment.

It's not anti Europe sentiment Mrs Blackthorn - I live in mainland Europe and am happy to do so; it's anti EU sentiment, which is another thing altogether.
