Actually, my biggest concern is what is happening to the atmosphere of this country. In 2012 I was so proud of the self-confident, optimistic, witty, welcoming face this country showed to the outside world and was proud to be a part of it. Now it seems like the Daily Mail comment page and the world is still watching.
That said, the loss of manufacturing and fishing are not due to the EU. Manufacturing was lost because of a combination of poor investment in skills, bad management, industrial relations and government policy. There are many economic textbooks on this. Blame Thatcher, blame Scargill, but do not blame the EU. Germany has invested in its manufacturing industry, has worked together and thrived.
Some Brexiters are claiming that we should just unilaterally allow all China and Indian imports without tariffs (or presumably any insistence on international working/product standards). What on earth do you think that will do to UK manufacturing?
Fishing - we fished the fish to near extinction. Are you really proposing no limits? Gove's sob story has been exposed as a lie.
By all means give two fingers to the government, but do so with full awareness of the consequences. A less prosperous, less tolerant, less welcoming and less influential island.
