Anyone got a Bakfiets?

Or know someone who has one? What do you think of them? Would you use one with a tiny in a car seat?
I'm nervous about the Christiana-type tricycle, as our neighbour 'capsized' her one with her two in it (unharmed...), and I think, oddly, that a 2-wheeler might be more stable.
Any advice really welcome!

sorry, can't help you on the 2 wheeled aspect, but I have a Kangaroo and love it.

I have 2 dds - aged 5 and 2, but I would have no worries about putting a tiny in it (obv depending on what terrain I would be riding over!).

Is the Kangaroo a Nihola? Is it gigantic? (We've not got endless storage options...) Could you/would you fit 3 children in it? How is it on hills? Is there any way of anchoring a baby seat into it (so that if the worst happened, and it did fall over, they'd be held in)?

it is quite large.

you could put 2 children in the fron, and one on a seat on the rear frame. depending on your children's ages, and the journey you would need to do, I owuld be tempted to move the seats right forward and put a tiny baby in a car seat in behind them, but that is prob not recommneded at all!

iirc, they sell a baby seat bit to go on one of the seats, from 6 months on though.

it is heavy on hills, ut has some good gearing, so once you get going it is ok, i find (but slow)

I have tipped mine once - was a bad combo of poor road maintenance, tricky camber/angle of leaving road onto footpath and going too fast . the girls were ok - if a little surprised!

I've just had a look at the webpage, and followed a link there to a review of various different trikes and bikes (in Dutch). A Babelfish translation of the bit about the Kangaroo reads:

"For this last bicycle must be, however, deeply groped in the pouch. He costs no less than 3,000, - euro. Expert Jos Louman found him, however, nicely slightly.."

The pouch bit seems v appropriate, given the name!

Yes it is really stable, excellent - you won't regret it.
Unless you live up a big hill which we do, that's why we sold it a month ago

you can test a Kangaroo and a nihola at London recumbents

they are really nice and helpful - you need to book in advance as the Kangaroo is kept off site. they have nihola's there all the time, I think. they also have other combos, but thoe two are the main family carriers they do.

alternatively, if you are nearer SW London ish, you are welcome to try mine - I'm in Surrey, just outside Epsom.

Will make a trip to London Recumbents in the autumn - have family in Dulwich so it's perfect! Didn't know they had such a good stock (sadly no bakfiets though, I don't think...)

Answer is yes to car seat but I don't know how exactly. You can carry anything in it. You could contact the guy with the blog and ask him - he is a fount of knowledge
