Anybody know if you are still able to buy Borax anywhere?
None of my usual places seem to have it anymore and the assistants I have asked don't even seem to know what it is never mind where its gone too.

Tescos! In their new eco range...

Innat · 18/05/2009 21:21

I have been looking for this myself. We have an enormous tescos near us but i couldn't find any. then I found some in "savers" i went in for something else and they had 500g boxes of borax and bicarb of soda nr the washing powders - 99p per box.

i've no idea if savers is a national chain or not, there's several in NE england.

Oh thanks Innat we have a savers in the city centre I will try there.
Feels as though I have tried everywhere else but no luck at all and dont want to pay postage charges on internet.

I buy borax fairly often - I like to make slime. I get it in a small independent ironmongers - a real glory-hole of a shop.

glucose · 19/05/2009 21:16

um, please fill me in on uses for Borax other than slime making
is it for clothes washing or for cleaning floors etc?

missmama · 21/05/2009 12:54

Ok so

Thanks Innat I got my bicarb in savers. Hadn't seen it in the big boxes before.
Still no borax though, they said they hadn't had any in for ages.

Cant find any in the Tesco eco range.

Lady in Boots said people had been using it on themselves??? so they didn't stock it anymore.
I don't know if this is just locally or now company policy.

The little hardware shop I use has had no deliveries for a long time they said.

Young girl in local chemist said it had been withdrawn, but had no further details.

None in Wilkinsons either, or local corner/ethnic stores.

So my simple little pop to the shop to get the borax has turned into a quest....

Using it on themselves, whatever for? Its an old fashioned cleaning product isn't it?
