How do you dispose of eco light bulbs?

Hello
My bathroom light bulb just blew (don't think I had it that long - but one of those things). I think they've got mercury in them?? How are we meant to dispose of them?

Cheers
GW

I treat them the same as the old variety. I put them in a box or wrap in newpaper and put the bin.

I suspect you're supposed to take them to the council tip but if you have to drive there it doesn't seem worth the fuel. Not sure what happens to them at the tip anyway.

There is an article from the BBC explaining why they should be disposed of properly and not put in household waste

Your council might take them in their recycling collections. Most councils list what they take on their websites. Ikea also take them.

That's a good news then. I just wonder if people does it properly since it is only now that I came to know of proper disposal of broken bulbs so i've thrown most of it the usual way.
