Freecycle: Does this sound like a tempting post??? Show me the worst!

I have a very long dusky pink 3 seater sofa to offer. It's a bit of a
mess. The covers on the seat cushions are ripped, the arms are a bit
mucky, it's lost its feet but it is a very good sleeping on sofa and
quite comfy. I would suggest that some students might like it as it's
really fine all the bits and pieces thrown at it: beer, crumbs,
cigarettes, party debris, people crashing, well it was certainly like
that when I was a student.

I've been trying to take some photos of it but we've not a proper
digital camera at the moment and they're worse than useless. I've been
hiding the mess on it with a throw so suggest perhaps you could do the
same with a throw you might have. It is big and quite heavy but you're
welcome to it if you can pick it up and make use of it.

well if someone's really desperate it'll do!

scrooged · 06/02/2009 14:24

Don't you mean really, really desperate?

People should draw a line somewhere. I wonder if she had any offers?

OP posts:
wotulookinat · 06/02/2009 14:27

I suppose she was just hoping that someone MIGHT want it and come and get it to save her taking it to the tip. Maybe someone will use it for a stage show about some students.

scrooged · 06/02/2009 14:30

Somethings are beyond offering on freecycle.

ThePellyandMe · 06/02/2009 14:34

At least she was honest I'm guessing if anyone wants it they won't have they're sights set too high.

scrooged · 06/02/2009 14:35

honest, yes.

haha!

I once saw someone offer casette recordings of songs from their youth... recorded from the radio!!!

I really don't think anyone asked for them!!!

Thereagain, I offered 2Kg of dog food (opened) that my dog wouldn't eat, expecting to chuck it in the bin, and I got 7 replies!!!!

wotulookinat · 06/02/2009 14:43

I would have asked for the dog food - my dogs will eat anything and it'd save a few pennies.
I once offered a bit of foam (part of a mattress) and got several replies!

scrooged · 06/02/2009 14:44

Dog food isn't personal. Casette recordings are individual, a bit like offering used bras or an unwanted vibrator. You just wouldn't. I used to be shocked at people offering hardcore then learnt what else it was.

Haribosmummy · 06/02/2009 14:46

at Scrooged!!! Did you wonder about those people picking up a transit van load of hardcore!!!

I have a choco lab so he usually eats everything too, but he won't touch Bakers Complete. No clue why!!!

TrinityRhino · 06/02/2009 14:48

I would have killed for that sofa when I first moved out into my own place

I longed to have a sofa...

scrooged · 06/02/2009 14:48

I just thought OMG! Is this legal?

My mum's dog is picky aswell. He won't eat certain brands. Very odd!

TrinityRhino · 06/02/2009 14:49

scrooged.....hardcore ROFFLE

scrooged · 06/02/2009 14:49

I'm sure better sofas have been given away, tempting as it may be.

I got some bras once from Freecycle - but the lady had tried one of the 4 on and decided they weren't right, so they don't really class as used, do they? I mean, she could have tried them on in the shop and they would have gone back on the shelf for sale.

scrooged · 06/02/2009 15:04

No, used would be, well, worn alot.

OP posts:
wotulookinat · 06/02/2009 15:06

Oh good, I was wondering if I was total skank then!!!

scrooged · 06/02/2009 15:09

Another one for you

"Wanted, Pictures by Joseph Farquason [1846-1935"Hi ya

My hubby really loves these pictures and would like to start
collecting them, we recently found one in the local charity shop
called Evening Glow. They will go to a great home.

scrooged · 06/02/2009 15:14

I have 38000 messages so I bet there's some good ones there somewhere.

Haribosmummy · 06/02/2009 17:14

I personally like the adds looking for cars etc.,

I saw one recently, and the freecycler was looking for wine / alcohol...

I thought of asking for cash after that one... Anyone with a little spare cash, I'll pick up from anywhere!! hahaha!

mloo · 16/02/2009 19:02

About sofas: someone told me that it's not legal to give one away if it doesn't have the Fire safety tags on it. Basically, any sofa made before about 1989.

I am trying to give away a sofa at the mo, sigh.
