Paying to give?

I've been trying to give some furniture to a charity, and am told that I will have to pay £15 for the priviledge. Otherwise they won't collect it.

It seems, well, something to be posted on AIBU! After all, I'm trying to give them about £600+ of good furniture, which I'm sure I could get about £150 for if I sold 2nd hand.

Is this normal?

Try freecycle instead.

Not normal round me - we've given a few things to a local charity, and they've just turned up with the van. They even sent us a polite thank-you note afterwards!

Look for other charities in your area - the one I've given to was "Home Aid", and they give out furniture to people who need it, rather than selling it.
