i got a link through scottish power who i get my energy from

they were much less expensive than £12 (but more than about a £1).... i think that deal is only avaliable to scottish power customers though (i was surprised as i didn even realise they existed)

I use a light saving bulb with a dimmer switch and it hasn't exploded yet! It does flicker if i don't turn the light full on which kind of defeats the object though

UmMwahahahaaaaa · 23/10/2008 11:05

No, these were ones that specifically said 'dimmer switch'.I know because I thought 'oh, that's interesting, I didn't know you could get dimmer eco bulbs.

Their normal eco ones are usually two for about £1 in Morrisons

Energy saving bulbs used with a dimmer switch (unless you buy the special ones) are a fire hazard and should not be used.

exasperatedmummy, please please change that bulb.

babyjjbaby · 23/10/2008 11:26

ok thanks will try morrisons then

energy saving lightbulbs don't work well on a dimmer (unless on full) because they buzz and flicker

that said .. go to Lidl .. they have Phillips ones for about 69p (I was stunned)

Twiglett · 23/10/2008 11:28

hang on are you saying that they can explode if on full on a dimmer?

babyjjbaby · 23/10/2008 11:29

thats why i want the dimmable ones u can't use standered energy bulbs with dimmer u have to buy a specific one

well our dimmer light has a normal energy saver on it

SaTanicGore · 23/10/2008 16:35

Twig, I have been warned by 3 electricians and a fireman NOT to use them.

They have both the potential to explode and to cause a short, which can cause a fire to start within the switch.

exasperatedmummy · 23/10/2008 16:49

Bloody hell!!! I'm taking the bulb out NOW! Thanks Satanic Gore.
