I am horrified by how many nappies I'm using.

I want to do the reusable nappy thing but am a bit put off by that pr which said all the extra washing nullified the ecological benefits... is that true? It can't be can it?!
Also dh is terrified of reusable thinking the whole house will be full of poo and drying nappies!
My sis is a massive fan though... i need some encouragement & ecological argument-bolstering!

Once you get into the swing of them I think they are less hassle than disposables as all the poo goes in the loo and you don't have to keep trapising out to the bin with pags of poo (perhaps I'm just a bit funny but couldn't stand fully nappy bags in the indoor bin). Saying that don't rush DS was 4mths before we switched over - the first few weeks are hard enough and do get some advice we made a mistaken birth to potty pack purchase which was hopeless and nearly put us off reusables (luckily we sold it and didn't lose too much). We got some advice and ended up using motherease nappies which for us worked well. Good luck with it all.

That's what I used - terry nappies with mother ease covers. Easy peasy, I found the covers don't need changing every time you change the terry, so about 24 terries and 6 covers was plenty.

i've got a 4 week old and using various reusables we've been given, with some disposables for when they're all in the wash/can't find the outer/my brain wopn't fuction.

the motherease wraps with velcro are great now A fits them; the ones with poppers are annoying. We started with nappy liners to flush away poo which helped keep the wraps clean, but ran out and can't find anywhere selling then locally! and an online order hasn't turned up after 2 weeks.

we do have a mismatch of inners and outers - about 50 fleecy motherease inners but only 3 wraps that fit! i suspect one of our friends got some bumgenius outers in the wrong bin and chucked then out, too. but as A has already grown out of the other 2 types of newborn reusable nappy, we're waiting before buying anything.

And yes, that EA survey was bonkers and people working in govt waste and environment policy were hugely pissed off with it!
