Why are so many computer accessories seen as disposable items - not very environmentally friendly is it?

My Mac keyboard has broken. When I rang Apple to find out how much a repair would be, they told me not to bother, just buy a new one for £29!! So what do I do with the old one? this also happened with my old printer - can't be repaired. So what happens to old computer stuff? Seems such a waste of resources.

it can all be recycled... though not sure how us normal people recycle it...

my friends OH is a computer fixer guy, and keeps all his watse whic is then taken away from his buisness premises (his house) for recycling

I totally agree

& it isn't just techy stuff - I am on my third breadmaker, and yet another toaster

I do wonder about doing a course so I could mend it

Computer manufacturers have to take back redundant items - by law - apple should explain how to send it to them.

Oh good - I am glad

I still think they should be fixed

ooh, thanks mrsjamin! Will take my old keyboard into the store and see what they say when I quote the law.
