Seriously - inspired by Dumble's thread, we would like to know how well a mooncup can work in a public loo context.

We are ignorant and I for one, and looking to be converted....anyone?

Yes come on - what why and how???

TrinityRhino · 02/10/2008 11:32

I would like to buy one right now
who is it that we can go through on here??

girlandboy · 02/10/2008 11:33

Sorry, never had to empty it in a public loo. Because it holds so much, I can time it so I don't have to!

oggsfrog · 02/10/2008 11:34

the consensus on the public loo question is to go into a disabled loo and use the sink in there. i do this at work. i only need to empty mine once in the middle of the day for the first few days and after that it is a morning and evening job.

trinity you can get them in boots apparently

oggsfrog · 02/10/2008 11:36

Franny used to sell them but I think new ds is keeping her busy at moment.

Bensonbluebird · 02/10/2008 11:37

Small squirty bottle of water in your bag, rinse out mooncup, pop it back in.

tissy · 02/10/2008 11:38

ermm.....you have a few sheets of loo roll torn off and ready to use, before you remove and empty it.

Wipe out/ around the cup with one or two sheets. Re-insert, and wipe your fingers/ fanjo before exiting cubicle to wash your hands.

girlandboy · 02/10/2008 11:41

Got mine from a larger branch of Boots. About £20 I think.

VinegarTits · 02/10/2008 11:41

Public loo - get tissue ready, pull out, pour, wipe clean, back in. Its a doddle.

iheartdusty · 02/10/2008 11:44

what tissy said

and/or carry small pack of wet wipes for hand

joshhollowayspieceofass · 02/10/2008 11:46

Ok, am gonna give it a whirl. Thanks for all links/advice.

No. Doesn't work. I once had to come out of the cubicle looking like I'd slaughtered a chicken - not changing it in a public place again.

Seeline · 02/10/2008 11:52

Thanks everyone - I am tempted to try.

BlessThisMess · 05/10/2008 13:45

My DH says to flush the toilet and wash it out in the flow. Instinctively it makes me feel yuck, but it is fresh clean and indeed drinkable water!!

stellabgh · 05/10/2008 19:57

I don't use mine if I will need to change it it a public place but I very rarely do need to.

PrimroseHall · 05/10/2008 20:01

How about washing it? I know you can put it in the dishwasher, but is it ok to do that when you're cleaning plates etc? I don't fancy having to boil it on the hob. I feel a bit squeamish about it being in with eating utensils as well though.

nannyL · 05/10/2008 20:52

PRIMROSEHALL i sterilise mine using milton...

i have a little tupperwear container and i stick it in there in the bathroom for a while..

i wouldnt feel right sterilisng it in a pan on the hob either

My friend never sterilises hers... just washes it in hot soapy water and rinses it well in fresh hot water... nothing bad has happened to her as a result

PrimroseHall · 06/10/2008 00:24

Thanks nannyL, Milton's a good idea. I might get one now.

hellywobs · 14/10/2008 13:20

I tried this but it just didn't work for me - I think my flow is too heavy and it is just too messy! And it hurts getting it in and out - I'm quite sensitive with thrush etc. Nice idea but I'll have to stick to landfill STs.

I usually only need to empty in public loos(I mean as an urgent thing, can't wait til I am somewhere more suitable) on one or two heavy flow days per cycle. I used to wash it out or wipe out with tissue, but now find it easier to simply empty and put it back in, then clean later. On lighter flow days I would empty less often, so can't see it is a problem to not wash it every time iyswim. Then wipe hand carefully before coming out to wash hands. Can I share my recent gruesome public loo experience from another thread - thought something was a bit odd, looked in the loo and saw my coil had come out in my mooncup.
