our 4 new lovely guineas are fab ...... but generating an awful lot of poo!

how should i get rid of the soiled bedding? we use newspaper as a base, followed by wood shavings and some hay on top. after 1-2 days there is so much poo hta I need to changeteh whole lot - but what to d owith the old?

i have put a couple of loads in the compost heap but don't want to put too much as i guess it's not ideal - do I just put it i the bin ? not very green for it to go to landfill.

Pretty sure you can compost it freely.

We do with gerbil bedding & (poop scooped) wood chip cat litter - it rots down with no problems - although we've ended up with 2 compost bins (one filling, one rotting) because of quantities of cat litter...

buy them a run and put them out on the grass in the daytime. We don't use newspaper in the hutch. Ours are out everyday except if it is pouring with rain. They can nibble the grass to nothing in about 2 days!
The dogs clear up the poo when the run is moved! ergh!

It makes great compost if you add some grass clippings. We've had guineas for the past year and our compost heap steams...

Herbivore poo is fine for compost heaps, just put it all on. Not fine for anything which eats meat though - I guess it's the same as not putting the meat itself onto the compost heap.

Thanks all - they've been out in the garden today and as I cut the grass I've mixed bedding and grass in the compost heap , which sounds like it should work ok .

isnt it a bit too dry on its own?
