Are they little tiny fruit flies? not a big problem if they are they don't seem to bother the worms. I get a cloud of them when I take teh lid off then they seem to disapear.

what are these pellets of which you speak/ not come accross them. Have home built worm bin.

I hate fruit flies when I take the lid off - want to know what pellets!

bellavita · 02/06/2008 21:41

You need to basically bury everything - flies do not dig.

If you put fresh bedding in over the top of what you have got and then bury the waste below it, it will not get rid of the flies that are already there but they will stop breeding.

But the key is to bury.

(this info has come from DH who has a wormery)

stleger · 02/06/2008 21:45

The bedding that you buy from your wormery shop, or is there anything free I can use?

bellavita · 02/06/2008 21:47

Yes there is "free things you can use".

When you do all your shredding of bills etc, keep it and use that or torn up egg boxes.

stleger · 02/06/2008 21:54

They seem to be having a party on my cardboard. I think Mr Worm said pure wool knitteds could be used instead of bedding - and I read somewhere that refridgerating prior to composting killed any fly eggs....It's a minefield!

bellavita · 02/06/2008 21:56

Well we (or rather DH) does not do any other stuff apart from what I mentioned.

stleger · 02/06/2008 22:54

I got mine for my children, but like all pets I enede up looking after them. I will shred my bills tomorrow!

bellavita · 03/06/2008 10:17

I am doing some bill shredding today!

Nymphadora · 03/06/2008 19:26

its got loads of paper in it. Pellets are anti-acid lime pellets supposed to change balance and disturb the flies

Is it like muesli?

Nymphadora · 05/06/2008 22:56

pellets , like you sometimes get in animal food?

OP posts:
iheartdusty · 05/06/2008 23:01

leave the lid off on a dry day and the birds will clean up a lot

the pellets look like rabbit food

Nymphadora · 05/06/2008 23:02

But the birds would get the worms? Only seagulls here anyway
