MPG- sign up and swell with pride

How many of us are watching our MPG. I've managed 30 today on very short trips in London. DP made 60 on a longer haul to the country this weekend. I find it a real incentive to drive softly when I can see what I'm consuming, but DP did point out that I was about to incite road rage with my gentle driving the other day!!!!

I aspire to have a car with an electronic MPG thing! I always want to know, and i drive much more carefully when I have one telling me that my insane revving has just put the MPG down to 0.5MPG.

Good point! I have to admit that the MPG thingy doesn't tally with the other readout that tells me how many miles I have left in the tank. FWIW I read that you need to imagine that there is an egg between your right foot and the pedal and not brake or accelerate hard enough to break it. 28MPG in an hour this am.

I have a 15-mile drive to work, mostly on an A road which has a couple of short dual carriageway sections - I usually leave at the last minute (or later ), get stuck behind a slowcoach for a bit, and then drive as fast as poss to make up.

I have now vowed to leave 10 minutes earlier and cruise instead (I will be that slowcoach, like you, LL )

I find NOT listening to the Today programme- which has a really hectoring tone helpful for not driving fast. Chris Moyles is surprisingly chilled.

Dh and I were being slightly competitive about who gets the highest mpg (diesel car - normally around 50/51) - I collected him then he drove home and the mpg dropped on his leg of the drive . Think he is a tad more aggressive behind the wheel...
