Cruelty Free Laundry Detergent

Can anyone recommend a really good CF laundry detergent? So far I've tried Method, Ecover & Greencare and they're good for daily cleaning but not our gym/sports clothes - they don't smell clean once dry. Looking for something pretty strong. Thanks!

Try Tesco antibacterial laundry cleanser or Astonish protect and care for gym clothes

Try smol, or splosh- their laundry liquid is good for everyday but they do a powder which would be worth a try for your gym clothes.
For my teen DD's school shirts I have found a soak in bicarbonate of soda and napisan in the wash are the best eco friendly methods for getting rid of smells (work as well as dettol antibacterial etc)

Thank you both, will look into those!

I put a capful of Astonish laundry liquid in the detergent ( cannot remember the proper name but it’s an additive for things like bedding and gym wear).

Astonish stain powder got a huge tub in Costco.

The liquid is good for DS manky gym clothes

Yes, I have tried several from the is company, I don’t like the Yorkshire one but the others are fantastic.
I’m using the Lavender flakes at the moment and love them. Olive are good too. I’ve also bought the liquid which is easy but more expensive.

I’ve only ever used Ecover with three kids, reusable nappies, mud, blood and everything else. Everything comes out clean so I can’t imagine it not working in gym clothes. Do they still smell sweaty or not have a ‘clean’ smell to them. As Ecover is kind of odourless compared to lots of brands.

I use Smol and it copes well with our smelly sports clothing. Excellent customer service too, if you get it delivered.

Lcm11 · 09/10/2024 12:58

@TMMC Ooh I've never heard of this brand, will take a look!

@Himawarigirl that's interesting, after we wash them the clothes still have a sweaty smell to them, like they haven't been washed thoroughly.

@Tinytigertail I've been looking at smol too, so will definitely give it a try.

Since I posted this I've discovered the Ineos detergent which seems to be working well, and the Astonish laundry cleanser which replaces Dettol quite well.

I use ecover and it works well

MrsPerfect12 · 09/10/2024 13:23

I'm using Tallow and Ash. Won't be for you if you don't like scented. I always use the antibacterial additives in my sweaty clothes so not sure how good it would be on its own.

Ooh they look great - good range of scents too! What antibac additive do you use?

I don't think ecover are well regarded any more, eco-wise (if that's what you are also looking for) as they're now owned by a big company - Johnson and Johnson maybe?

Green folks have boycotted them for this reason.

MrsPerfect12 · 10/10/2024 19:04

@Lcm11 just the astonish (had a nicer smell) or detol. I don't think there's something on the market that fits your criteria for the antibac tho.

Dettol isn't cruelty free though

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/10/2024 22:37

Another vote for Tallow & Ash. I love all their products but my favourite is Date Night. They also do a stain remover which you can add for anything really unpleasant.

And I said..." I don't think there's something on the market that fits your criteria for the antibac tho."

Pleased to report Tallow + Ash has solved the problem. Thanks so much for all your help!

@Lcm11 congratulations and welcome to the addicted to Tallow & Ash club! 😂

@HundredMilesAnHour hahaha I am obsessed, I'm telling everyone I know. I went for Duvet Day this time but will try Date Night next!
