Probably very stupid Q about rechargeable batteries

We have Panasonic cordless phones which came with Panasonic AAA batts, capacity 750 whatevers. They've been getting weaker & I just replaced with Uniross, capacity 1000 whatevers.

When charging the phones have a light that starts out red & turns green when they're done, but these just went on and on charging and never turned green; so I want to know, is this harmful for the batteries/charger/environment? Should I get new ones of 750 again? (I can probably use the 1000 ones in TV remotes or something)

The charger can probably only charge to 750 and not 1000 which is why it just keeps going. I'd swap them over.

Thanks, chris - that's what I was thinking, chris - will buy some more then (they are cheap enough on ebay!)
