Dump Hunters and Skip Divers...

I have to show my true colours as i dont know how much longer i can keep the skip-diving freecycler in me at bay....

i was wondering what your ( if youve ever done it) best skip find was???

mine was two intact perfect stained glass windows.

An antique Chinese altar table. When I spotted it, I shouted stop! so forcefully the taxi driver thought I was about to chuck up.

A battered burgundy red leather trunk. I cleaned it up and use it as a blanket box. I love it.

I live close to our town dump... Could be dangerous, lol.
Once found 6, yes, 6 lovely oak doors for our old house. They were beautiful.

Three gorgeous cast iron vintage Singer sewing stools with wooden seats (I'm sitting on one now, 40 yards of purple corduroy (now curtains mostly), most of the parts for this computer, the TV, the dining table, the dingin chairs, a beautiful and very comfy Italian 1970s leather and wood armchair, an entire kitchen (well the wood and sinks to make it), a couple of belfast sinks, several washing machine drums that have become BBQs/ herb planters etc, a very classy amp, all the old windows that have become the conservatory...

ok, crimplene gets the prize....

If you Google 'dumpster diving' you get the most amazing ideas from the US. We used to rescue fridges and freezers but old ones are just to wasteful to run and to keep pace with the nappies we had to get a more robust washing machine than the rescued one. The local skips haven't been so well mined since Freecycle has given us access to more and better tat... and even I draw the line at matresses and food.
