What do you think of the Saw X adverts on the buses?

What do you think when your kids are seeing adverts for the SAW movie on buses?
Currently there are buses displaying images of a man getting the eyeballs sucked out of his head using a machine. Do you think this is ok?

No I hate this ad and it makes me feel a bit queasy every time I see it - which was about 5 times yesterday as the buses in my city all seem to have it plastered on the side. I actually haven't looked at it too closely, I thought it was two strip light bulbs mashed into someone's eyes! Anyway. Maybe I'm a pearl clutcher but no, I don't think it's appropriate to put that kind of image in front of people without warning.

How strange to see this post! I 'Saw' this advert on the bus just this morning and had exactly the same thought!

My nearly 4 year old loves to spot buses but he's also prone to nightmares and I know if he saw this image he'd be absolutely petrified!

And I'm pretty relaxed about what he watches/sees/stories etc but I also thought it was pretty gory

I had to really think on my feet when my primary aged DC was asking questions about that picture. Its a bit much.

Is that a london bus? Tfl won’t allow ads for cakes due to sugar on the tube and yet allows that ad?

@sashagabadon yeah, and ads of "beach body ready" in case it offends someone...
Disgusting that this is allowed! Should be challenged.

I hate this ad on the buses too. If my DC ask about it I think I’ll try to say it’s someone looking through a type of telescope or something.

I hate it too. I made the mistake of Googling to see what it was about. Bad, bad idea.

Mine seemed to think they were wearing a strange pair of glasses and I don't think the eye sucking aspect occured to her. Said it was equipment for a game but it's pretend in a film.

Its buses in every city. Its a national advert. It might be "First Bus" company. The bus with it on that I saw it on is in York.

I hate it and have already complained yesterday to TfL and the ASA. I can’t believe it’s allowed and am so glad others feel the same. So inappropriate!

I didn’t notice it but my very easy going hardly ever comments on anything DP did and he was outraged.

A good few years ago, local buses carried a large ad for a film called “Thingy and Someone Else* Make a Porno.” That was a fun explanation to my 6 and 7 year olds.

I found myself channelling my inner Mary Whitehouse.

*Can’t remember the names, and for obvious reasons, I’m not googling the film.

Didn't occur to me either. They look like light sabres.

That's horrendous. Can't understand how on earth that got the ok. I don't want to look at that let alone young children.
Film posters can be quite shocking and they need to think more about who they are visible to. Can't remember the what the film was but DD was upset for quite some time after seeing a horror movie poster at the cinema when we were there to watch Disney Enchanto ffs. Didn't occur to me she would see anything remotely inappropriate at 2 in the afternoon. She had several nightmares based on that one image she saw.

No it is not nice and I don't think it's appropriate. Have seen it a lot in the North West this week. I don't like horror movie ads on buses at all, but saying that DCs have never noticed anything when we've been out and about.

The last one I remember being as ubiquitous as this Saw one was Smile, and that was creepy as anything too.

The older I get the more I think Whitehouse had a point. The shit that children can see nowadays is horrible.

I hate adverts like this whether they’re on the side of a bus or on the TV. DH actually complained to ITV about the Saw advert tonight as it came on while viewing something on ITV X and I find them disturbing and frightening - I’m 48 so goodness knows what my 6 or 4 year old would think of these adverts, I would be horrified if they saw this image on the side of a bus!

We saw that ad on a bus yesterday and I don’t think it’s suitable at all .

Couldn't complain. There's no explanation of the image, nor what the device is and what it will go on to do. Most young kids won't bat an eyelid, even if they did ask then obviously you'd just tell them it's an advert for some film. Around here we've got a bit more to be worried about in real life, stabbings, shootings, teenage gangs. It's a picture not a clip of the actual movie scene playing.

Report
BabyFireflyx · 21/09/2023 01:27

There's really grim images and descriptions on packs of cigarettes. Some kids will see them daily. I get your point though, it could've been a Billy image or even j
Jigsaw himself but I think the Saw franchise at this point has to put something provocative out there and this was one of the tamer options.
