Email/ring them and arrange a time for them to collect your item. The person taking the item usually collects, you don't deliver. Then wait for it to be taken off your hands! Once it's been collected, you can post a 'taken' message so you don't get any more enquiries.

Ohhh, we have offered something on freecycle I hope you wouldn't be scared of coming to my house.

SlartyBartFast · 27/02/2008 09:50

Let someone know where you are going and at what time, just in case. Then you'll have more peace of mind. Or get DH or a friend to go with you?

bellavita · 27/02/2008 09:53

Basically, when someone comes to our house, they knock, we open the door, they say I am from freecycle, I have come to collect , then we say here you go - give them the item and they trot off.

SlartyBartFast · 27/02/2008 09:54

i will tell everyone where i am going

Sorry, misunderstood. Could you ask them to leave the item on the doorstep so you don't have to knock? I often do this if I'm offering stuff so I don't have to wait in for people to collect.

I know what you mean Slarty. We used it for the first time on sunday and I made sure DH dealt with the person picking up from us. I have heard stories about people having their house burgled soon after a 'transaction'. Probably an urban myth.

We were really impressed by how it works.

i think its the whole internet thing.
