HRT plant based for vegetarian

I thought I'd put this on the Ethical Living topic .

First off . I;ve always shied away from HRT, I;ve been a good 6-7 years now since my last period and I thought I was doing ok .
I;m 56 and just starting to see those "signs" .
Hair becming a bit rubbish (though I was really ill last year with prolonged bleeding from IBS )
Belly fat <sigh>
And now I'm forgetting things . I can read a name or think "Oh I;ll post that" (on a thread) and by the time I;ve got to the next page , I;ve forgotten.
I can still function IRL , I write a lot down at work to remind me .

I don;t want to go to my GP and have to explain as a vegetarian I don;t want gelatin or horses pee from catherterised pregnant mares , he'll look at me like I;m barmy .

So , out there in Health Shops , what;s a good choice ?
If you got this far , thank you .

If it's TLDR - can anyone recommend an HRT type supplement for a menopausal vegetarian.
TIA

Don't write your GP off straight away.

I don't think you'd be treated as barmy - I've known plenty of vegans request vegan friendly meds for various things without issue.

Thanks for the link

I need to decide I think why I want to take it and what it can do for me . I;m thankfully not getting flushes now .

I might have to take myself off to Holland &Barrett or somewhere ,

Holland and Barrett can't give you HRT.
Modern HRT is made from yams not pregnant mares. Go to the GP!

Premarin is old news, hasn't been prescribed routinely for years and years. Look up the NICE guidance on menopause.

Pretty sure that estrodial is vegan and possibly also utrogestan.

Premarin hasnt been prescribed in the UK since the early 2000s

And Holland and Barrett doesn't have the high strength stuff anyway if you want to avoid HRT. I'd look online for proper supplements.

Have you actually done any research about modern HRT because it sounds like you’re basing your ideas about it on information that was around 20-30 years ago…. 😳 You need to google bio identical HRT and read the ingredients of the different components (Oestrogel, utrogestan). Have a google of the Newson health website, lots of fact sheets and information there.

Op, I could have written your post. I am almost 56 and decided to finally start HRT a few weeks ago and wanted a vegetarian or vegan alternative to the HRT that usually has animal derivatives. My GP was great when I explained and I too was worried she would say I should just take what's available but she fully understood. As there is a history of DVT with my late mother she needed to check with a specialist what I can take and would also look into vegan alternatives. I'm now taking Evorel Conti patches and am 2 weeks in. No change to my symptoms of brain fog and poor sleep yet but can take up to 3 months to take effect. None of my local pharmacies had this HRT and I had to ring around, found one and got the very last pack!

Sorry I misread your post. If you don't want HRT due to worrying what your GP might think about needing about a vegan option then my post should help as there are options open to you. I'm not sure about alternative versions from health shops though. Not entirely sure they are medically trained, I might be wrong. But if you are still erring on HRT there is an option for you with the Evorel Conti and others.
