What to do with ripped and stained clothes

Can anyone advise on what to do with ripped and stained clothes?
Is there any point in putting them in a charity bag - not sure if they would get turned into rags or just binned?
I do keep the occasional ripped or stained t shirt to use as a floor cloth but was thinking more of things like jeans and jeggings. Mine always seem to go in holes between the legs!

There is a clothes collection bin down the road from me and another in the car park of the supermarket.

Do you have one of those? Check your council website for recycling details.

Some charities do clothes collections from doorstep.

They get sold by the kg to rag companies, so the cycle continues. They won't go to landfill and the charity will make a few pence.

Thanks, both.
Yes, we have those clothes collection points by us, and frequent bags through the door.

I use for rags myself. Cleaning windows, mopping up spills etc. Will eventually go in the bin. I don’t like to put in clothing bins as I’m suspicious it will get shipped to an African country and end up in the sea.

I take mine to the textile bank at the tip.

Wash them and bag up mark rags....pop then into your charity shop. They get money for them.

We have a local clothing collection which publishes it's records annually.

They show a high percentage of soiled/stained/ripped clothing sold to rag/industry who uses fabrics for insulation etc.

The percentage of items sent to landfil is less than. 1%.

Thank you all 👍
