Is this taking Recycling/Economising too far????

We have a badly damaged tyre and inner tube on the front wheel of our 3 year old Urban Detour.
Today driving along I saw just the metal frame of an urban detour complete with wheels and tyres, so I jumped out of the car, undid the quick release front wheel complete with quite new looking tyre, threw it in the boot and drove off hoping no one recognised me!!
I don't know whether to pat myself on the back for resourcefulness or never show my face on that particular street again...

Sounds good to me (maybe you need to keep sunglasses and a hat in the car as a disguise for any future exploits)

Impressive!

I saw a really battered old Pliko outside someone's house last year and dragged it to some buhes to hide and pick up later! I took off the parts I needed and binned the rest. It was provenance

CarGirl · 09/01/2008 12:45

you should have taken the back wheels too..........

southeastastra · 09/01/2008 12:47

just on the side of the road?

CarGirl · 09/01/2008 12:48

I hope it wasn't parked outside someone's house and their covers were in the wash.....

Great as long as you were 100% sure that it didn't belong to anyone

Flibbertyjibbet · 09/01/2008 12:54

Er, yes southeastastra.... on the pavement on a street that has no houses on, just some industrial units and a block of flats a bit further up. Part of the frame was snapped so obviously been dumped.
I would have thrown the whole thing in the car to take the rear wheels off later but as usual my car was full of other buggies and car seats!

go back for the rest later

PersephoneSnape · 09/01/2008 13:02

i take things off the street all of the time - i have a cream leather armchair, a coffee table and a mantlepiece in my living room that i nabbed and squeezed into the back of my hatchback.

it's recycling. YANBU.

Wisteria · 09/01/2008 13:38

That's fine then, isn't it?
I was a huge fan of skip ransacking in my student days and still would now if there was anything worth nicking reusing..

I don't think you can take economical living and recycling too far to be honest!
