Anybody familiar with the eco-smart washing powder which is being advertised here?

How does it compare with Ecover for green-ness, performance and price?

performance - better imo - price, as good I think, and green credentials, WendyWeber and I had a conversation about it a few weeks ago, and decided that it is ok - can't remember the details though. I do think it is better at cleaning, and does not irritate my skin

Price - good. Not sure about green-ness ... I can't recycle the packaging whereas I can with Ecover. Not too sure on performance either. Sometimes I wonder if I actually put detergent in?!

Funnily enough if you read the details this is the ONLY product on the market that has independent accreditation. As far as I can understand this eco label thing is something that Ecover either can't, or won't get. So its green credentials have to be the best around.

I looked at the packaging too and it is recycleable!!

Personally I think its great on performance - can't fault it. And as for price I really think they've got it right - why should green products be more expensive? I won't buy Ecover anymore - why would I pay more for something with lesser performance??

got some of the bio stuff at the weekend. Performance-wise, fine, as good as Surcare. However, it REEKS! VERY strong smell- terrible. Dh insisted that I put the towels through again with Surcare.

Emailed the company via their website, and they say that there will be a perfume-free version coming out in the new year, but that the non-bio doesn't smell as strong.

Hi Sophy,

We're happy to provide some answers to your questions and hopefully you'll find them helpful. We don't want to be the ones to compare the Simply Laundry brand to other products in the market place as it would be very difficult for us to appear impartial. We'll leave those comparisons to independent consumer organisations like Which etc and good old word of mouth.

However we are very proud that Simply Laundry and it's sister brand Simply Dishwash are the first UK manufactured laundry and dishwash detergents to be awarded EU Eco-Label licences. This is a European wide scheme which in this country is administered by the Government in the form of DEFRA. To obtain a licence a product has to pass a stringent testing regime which doesn't just cover environmental responsibility but also cleaning performance. In effect that's the guarantee of effectiveness and minimised impact on the environment. You can find out more about the EU Eco-Label at our website www.simplywashing.com

We passionately believe that if consumers are to adopt environmentally responsible products then the products must be as effective as the brands they're replacing and shouldn't be any more expensive. We also offer a 100% money back satisfaction guarantee on our product so that consumers can try our brands risk free.

We've just checked the prices of Ecover on the Tesco price check website

Ecover 1.2 kg Bio powder is £3.98 and using the dosing guidelines from their website that's 10.4 washes for normal soiling in medium water hardness giving a cost per wash of 38p.
Simply Laundry is £2.99 in Morrisons, Sainsburys and the Coop for 15 washes (again medium hardness water with a normal levels of soiling) which gives a cost per wash of 20p.

We hope that you find the above helpful.
