Recycle car seat

I was in a minor prang but we still need to get rid of our car seat. It's only 3 months old so brand spanking new. I think we'll have to take it to the tip but I want to avoid anyone nabbing it while it's there since it's not safe anymore. Also the thought of it going to landfill is very depressing. Are there any schemes to recycle car seats? I googled but can't find any.

Cut the straps and take a hammer to it before you take it to the tip. Not heard of any recycling schemes but at least you can take out your frustration on it before it heads off to landfill.
