well..... earlier I tried a shampoo bar and a conditioner bar. friendly soap geranium and lavendar? (pink box)

well its fine. feels fine. Id read about a nasty "transition" period etc etc. so I braced myself for it. My hair is now dry and feels the same as any other shampoo/ conditioner! maybe Im just lucky!

I've used 3 different shampoo bars (and one conditioner bar) and no transition period so far. My hair stays looking cleaner for longer. I'm a convert!

stuffingball · 15/02/2020 21:40

Interesting! I have recently started using soap bars instead of shower gel and hand wash, but have not been brave enough for shampoo bars yet. How do you get them to lather up enough?

PorpentinaScamander · 15/02/2020 21:43

I switched to shampoo and conditioner bars this week. My hair feels the same as always.

@stuffingball I just rubbed it between my hands for a bit. I was amazed how much it lathered up. I've got some from the Soho soap company.

comfypantsisme · 15/02/2020 21:45

well all i did with the shampoo one was lather it in my hand for a start then shrugged and then wiped the bar on my hair lol. (its nearly shoulder length and quite thick). lathered lovely!! with the conditioner one i did the same, lathered for a start in my hand then thought sod it and swooshed on my hair! combed through after with fingers.

I use one from Lush, just one swipe across wet hair and it lathers enough to was my body as well if I want to. I have shoulder length hair but it is quite fine.

Doryhunky · 15/02/2020 21:47

What makes are you using? I have never had any luck.

comfypantsisme · 15/02/2020 21:47

i`ve cut the bars in half so i have shampoo and conditioner in the same soap dish . shampoo is yellowy colour, conditioner is white.
been using proper soap for the rest of me a while now with a soap bag instead of a plastic puff. also converted to a bamboo toothbrush.

check ma halo......................................!! :)

Any recommendations please?

comfypantsisme · 15/02/2020 21:51

friendly soap. thats what the eco refill shop had. my body/hands/ face soap is from a farmers market local handmade no sls etc etc one. I was surprised at the amount of lovely lather on the shampoo. lots! thinking be good as a shaving soap?????

I’m also interested in recommendations please. Wavy, thick hair here.

goteam · 15/02/2020 21:52

I use the same friendly soap one. It was fine for the first few weeks but found after a while there was a build up and my hair felt greasy and matted. I still use it but use the kid's shampoo around once a fortnight now then don't get the build up. When this bar is finished I will try a different one.

comfypantsisme · 15/02/2020 21:52

previously i was using tescos own raspberry shampoo and conditioner. has been dyed in the past, but really cannot be bothered with that palava any mor (im 44).

OP posts:
comfypantsisme · 15/02/2020 21:54

i shall watch for build up. maybe use up the tesco one if needs be as a debuildupper

comfypantsisme · 15/02/2020 21:55

my hair feels so silky and soft!!

comfypantsisme · 15/02/2020 21:56

my hair`s wavy and thick too.

goteam · 15/02/2020 22:08

Yeah comfypants I have thick hair too. If I don't manage to find a better one I will stick to the friendly soap and continue to use regular shampoo as I do now as a debuildupper as you say. I will try to find a refill option. I wash my hair 3 times a week so still use shampoo bars the majority of the fine. The build up is horrible though. Hope your hair continues to be fine!

goteam · 15/02/2020 22:09

*time

SideHustle · 18/02/2020 23:53

Oh, I get the buildup with Friendly shampoo too. It's just sitting not being used now TBH.

linoleum · 22/02/2020 08:14

If you get build up, yet rinsing with a vinegar rinse. I use about a tablespoon of vinegar in a big cup of water and just pour it over once I’ve rinsed out the shampoo, then rinse with water. I’d heard that you should use Apple cider vinegar, but any works - it’s the acidity not some special apple cider magic. I just use cheap distilled vinegar, you can get it in glass bottles. It works really well, and doesn’t smell of vinegar once rinsed. I’ve not used conditioner for months now and just stuck with a shampoo bar (friendly soap) and my hair has never been better.

BlueChampagne · 25/02/2020 12:39

Thick wavy hair here, and a convert to cider vinegar rinse instead of conditioner.

SarahHackey91 · 27/02/2020 18:08

Yes, I've been using them for the past few months. Great smell but because I colour my hair, I get a weird film on the strands after use which needs a good rinse. It's still a great product and reduce plastic waste.

PurpleFrames · 27/02/2020 19:35

I have thin shoulder length hair- gets greasy at the roots after a day but always dry at the ends. Would I benefit from a bar?

20mum · 13/04/2020 09:08

To avoid plastic, and scent, bars seemed the only way, for hands and hair. Tried feeding my scalp and hair with a drenching of olive oil (worked beautifully) and even that was not too difficult for the bar soap to wash off.
