Green alternative to bleach for loo?

Heavy limescale area... Ecover toilet cleaner doesn't work as it gets sticky and doesn't get rid of the Iimescale.
(Even though it smells great!)

Bleach does a great job but I'm not sure it's so great for our environment!

What does everyone else use?

cover the toilet bowl in salt, and then rub half a lemon over it. let it sit for around 30 mins, and then flush x

Bicarb and lemon and rough sea salt or white vinegar. The bleach won’t be getting rid of the limescale anyway, just ‘bleaching’ it so it’s less obvious. Also, does that coca cola trick work anyone know?

Coke isn't ethical - it takes 3l of water to make 1l of cola.

it also works if you pour lemon juice round the rim as you would bleach x

I have found it helps, yes. I don't use bleach anymore because lemon does a very similar job x

I use a generous pour of white vinegar left for as long as possible (overnight) then go at it with a brush and the scale just comes off.

Citric acid is sold in Aldi for home jam making. You can use it (with rubber gloves!) in the place of bleach or scouring powder. Just shake it over dry and give it a swish round with the brush. Leave 30+ mins and flush.
Interesting fact: industrially produced citric acid isn’t made from lemons but from a cultivated mould!

Yes the cola thing works I tried it the other day. Can’t comment on the ethics.

I want to stop using bleach too. Does White vinegar work? Will my house stink of vinegar? I'm doing stealth eco steps as DH isn't really on board so would prefer he doesn't notice

Bleach itself doesn't Really have an environmental impact but it’s manufacture supports the organochlorine industry which does so it depends on what your specific ethical concern is

Or he could always clean the toilet himself if he has such strong views about it. Just a thought

Splosh do a toilet cleaner that's environmentally friendly. Smells amazing and clears the sinuses because it's mint and eucalyptus. I've only been using it a couple weeks but it appears to be working well.

It's OK, we do have a cleaner and I'm chronically unwell so DH does a lot around the house cooking and most of the childcare. His mum used loads of Bleach when he was younger so he really can't stand the smell!

Ecover Zero ( Black bottle) works brilliantly in our hard water area

White wine vinegar! Of course. That's what I put in the kettle / iron. I'll try that, thank you.

Might get Ecover Black too if I can find it.
