With all this rain, I have a footwear problem.

I need something waterproof but find anything that comes over my ankles too restrictive.
Ideally, I would like something fairly traded (or non-exploitative), environmentally sound, and if possible, leather-free. Or recycled...
Help!
Oh, and I'm on a budget.

how about recycled, biodegradable carrier bags?

Cappuccino · 02/07/2007 13:38

second hand wellies with the legs cut off

TooTicky · 02/07/2007 13:38

I was thinking of something a little more hardwearing...

I was joking

but don't wellies last?

MamaG · 02/07/2007 13:39

weave your own from ethically cut reeds from the riverbank

can't believe that Crocs haven't been mentioned yet

Enid · 02/07/2007 14:00

crocs!

BettySpaghetti · 02/07/2007 14:01

aah, at last! Thanks Enid. A footwear thread on MN isn't complete without a mention of crocs

chopster · 02/07/2007 17:31

crocs aren't too nice in the rain though. Feet get all muddy.

TooTicky · 02/07/2007 22:38

Okay, any non-rubbery sensible suggestions?

pollywollydoodle · 02/07/2007 22:53

don't know what they are called but what about those cut off slip on welly things you get in garden centres.....

TooTicky · 02/07/2007 22:58

Mmm...I don't know. I do a lot of walking and suspect they wouldn't be comfy enough.

Have you tried ethicalwares or vegetarian shoes?

Wisp · 02/07/2007 23:03

Oh and veganstore.co.uk lots of waterproof shoes in the sale there too!

TooTicky · 02/07/2007 23:22

Ethicalwares I haven't tried - the others I have. Thanks

TooTicky · 02/07/2007 23:23

Actually, haven't tried veganstore - was thinking of vegan shoes. Right, off I go...

fillyjonk · 08/07/2007 14:51

ticky did you find anything?

i have a similar dilema

is there a particular reason why waterproof stuff is all so BORING? What about a nice green shoe?

TooTicky · 08/07/2007 23:28

No, not yet. But we have had two days of sunshine

I dunno. Even if money wasn't an issue, I have a lot of criteria when buying anything, and shoes have to be comfortable as well!
