Soap Saver Pouches

Been enticed by the MN soap v shower gel debate and the issue of single use plastic to make the switch back to soap once current supplies of shower gel are used up. But equally thinking about the disadvantages of doing so; soap scum, difficulty in getting a lather (hard water area) mess etc and while researching how to resolve some of these issues have come across soap saver pouches.

I was wondering if anyone here has used them and would recommend them or not?

Yes, I use some crochet ones from Etsy.

No soap scum on the shelf, any soapy water just dries onto the wool.

The crochet helps work up a nice lather (we are hard water too) plus has a slight exfoliating effect.

They have a little loop so can hang them up to dry out.

I just pop them in the normal wash whenever I’ve finished a bar of soap.

My skin feels much better since making the switch.

Sounds positive - you said wool, I haven't seen those. The ones I found were either sisal, cotton or that plastic material bath puffs are made from too (I guess avoiding the latter would be better unless they are longer lasting).

I've also seen suggested that you can cut a bar of soap shaped hole out of a sponge, and use that - again, the sponge helping to create a lather as the soap comes through.
I like using hard soap, and arent bothered about lots of suds, so just have the bar on a dish with drainage holes attached to the upright bar in the shower.

Oh yes I don’t think it’s really wool, maybe it’s like wool but made from cotton?

I use the toes of an old pair of sheer tights or stockings. Also have been known to collect the scraps from soap by the washbasin and put them in similar to make sure that I get every last bit used up!
