Best washable sanitary pads

I've just trialled an Honour Your Flow, cotton velour and wool backed maxi pad. I really wanted to love it, BUT, I found it to fray terribly on the first wash (despite having washed it at a lower temperature than the 60 degree wash recommended by the manufacturer), I wasnt crazy about the width of the middle part of the pad - Im petite but need a long pad, so I need something less than 3" wide. At over a tenner a pop plus postage, I want something that is going to be comfy, hardwaring and reasonably affordable.

Im looking for suggestions if you use washable sanitary pads and have found something you love. Im not keen on sillly patterns and would prefer plain black.

I use these ones. Just measured one and its exactly 3 inches wide (the long length ones). They are not thick and bulky and I've used the same pads for nearly four years and they are not showing any signs of wearing out just yet!

Thank you Nanny, I did look at the Imse Vimse, but they are the same width as the HYF ones. They are worth considering though as no wider than the HYF and might wash better.

I've bought a few sample pads from different places and invested in small bits (half metre) of core and topper material. I plan to make some customised for my dd and pants liners for me. I've finished (menopause) and dd is about to start periods. She's up for it. I wish I'd known about them when I had my period.

Well done you Bellini, I did look up some online tutorials, but tbh, I’m rubbish on a sewing machine and very time poor so it is something I’m willing to pay someone to do for me. My only problem is my dimensions!

Its a wonderful skill to have. I think its a life skill. As rubbish as I am (I never learnt as a child as have only had some pretty crude attempts as sewing), I am determined my daughter will have the skill, so Im trying to learn and plan to send her on a kids sewing machine course soon. Probably by the time Im good enough to make anything useful, I wont need the pads anymore!

I haven’t tried washable pads yet, do they feel wet against your skin? I find some normal sanitary towels do.

What do you carry them home in if you change in the middle of the day at work?

I don't find that they feel wet, I use cotton ones but you can buy them with a fleece top which I imagine would feel dry.
They fold up into an 'envelope' shape and you secure them with the popper when you've changed them. I have a small zip up toiletry bag that I keep in my handbag and I just put them in there when I've used them.

I find the ecofemme ones make me feel a bit wet but any of the cotton jersey, velour or bamboo toppers don't.

These are just under 3 inches although I do find them a bit wide
