Hi ladies,

I know it is probably driving you nuts too so help to stop these multinational groups polluting on such a huge damaging scale.

Plus have a whinge about your packaging experience on the group site - I'm trying to make a difference!!

"Join facebook here "

and search for the group say
no to ridiculous supermarket packaging

or email me at [email protected] and I'll invite you!!

I'm a regular MN user and just trying to spread the word as this situation is doing my head in. I want just a handful of grapes that I pick (like the good old days) a cucumber without a condom, one peach and muchrooms in a paper bag!!!

Thanks ladies!

our local asda has reduced their packaging massively and is encouraging customers not to use bags for the loose fruit and veg..

also they have a huge recycling box as you walk in , to recycle your plastic bags,

so i think the tide is starting to turn!

good on you though

PMSL at the cucumber with a condom!!

sarz · 14/06/2007 20:57

I have to say i am trying really hard with all this! I have the reusable sainsburys bags and i try to pick the f&v without packaging! I do have a cucumber with a condom though!

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 14/06/2007 22:05

what a good idea.

I try to buy loose fruit and veg at the supermarket whenever I can and won't bag single items (brocoli, bananas etc).

It just a thought but the government is really pushing forward on its reduced waste collection targets for the whole of the UK. We are about to take delivery of our council wheely bins with fortnightly collections for non recyclables.

I am going to be more conscious then ever about what I throw away and will even stand there at the till and remove excess packaging if necessary as I see no reason why it should fill up my bin when imo, it shouldn't be there anyway.

Anyway, I wonder whether this will eventually be a strong deciding factor in getting supermarkets to reduce their packaging??

I propose a mumsnet till-side backlash with cucumber condoms being removed willy nilly

sarz · 14/06/2007 22:13

next to my sainsburys there is an actual fruit and veg shop. I will go there next week, because i had a nosey in there yesterday and everything is loose and looks good. ( ihavent lived her very long, so only just found it)

Although, just incase i do buy some from sainsburys, i will leave the condom behind!!

moondog · 14/06/2007 22:18

I avoud supermarkets but when I do go,I remove all packaging at checkout and give it (politely) to the cashier.

tryingtomakeadifference · 15/06/2007 21:27

Aparently the government has given until 2010 for sumpermarkets to voluntarily reduce packaging and if they haven't done so they will be forced by law!!

The environment minister is saying for everyone to remove packaging at tills - so go forth mumsnetters and free your fruit!!!!

Give me a whinge on [email protected] and spread the word, I need lots of emails!!

Joined your facebook group... Do the supermarkets actually recycle the packaging you leave though, I bet they don't, therefore I'd rather put it in the recycling or buy it elsewhere...!

Perigrine · 01/07/2007 01:29

Love to join, I am majorally into recycling, but very concerned that if I don't recylce it myself and leave it to these (aa!"£1234124123) companies, they will dump it themselves.
