Who makes their own cleaning products?

I’m trying to be more eco, use less chemicals, buy less plastic etc.

Does anyone make their own cleaning products?
I’d like to try but I’m not sure where to start and lots of instructions seem too ‘american’ so I’m not sure of uk equivalents iyswim.

Any advice or recipes you can recommend?

Yes, I'm gradually replacing shop-bought with homemade. What do you want to start with?

Maybe something to clean surfaces? I use the dettol surface spray atm for kitchen work tops, another one for loo etc.

I use sodium percarbonate (mineral bleach) for lots of things - disinfecting, stain removal etc. You can buy a huge amount in bulk from eBay (it does come in a bit of plastic, but can be recycled with plastic bags). Needs mixing up with water each time (as it's only 'active' for around 5hours), but it's environmentally friendly & fairly safe (wouldn't eat it though!)

I just use hot soapy water to wipe down surfaces. I've never bought into the whole anti bacterial thing. Where needed, I use a spray that I made with diluted white vinegar and a squirt of washing up liquid and a spoonful of cheap vodka. I've added essential oil (lemon) to it, but am going to try peeling lemons and soaking the rinds in vinegar to see if I can make lemon scented vinegar.

For toilets, I dissolve a cup of soda crystals in some hot water, pour into a bottle, add a large slug of vodka and top up with water. I've added tea tree and peppermint oils to that one.

I'm using bottles that take between 500ml and 1 litre. I'm going to get hold of some bicarbonate of soda next as that features in a lot of recipes I see online.

I fill up spray bottle with half white vinegar and half water, a bit of dish soap and some form of essential oil and use that for nearly everything that needs wiping. For glass cleaning I don’t include any dish soap. And maybe put 2/3 white vinegar.

Sometimes put some bicarb in too. Not sure you're supposed to with vinegar... But it fizzes up lovely 😀
Haven't bought cleaning stuff apart from dish soap and toilet bleach for years.
