I know this might should go in the telly addict section, but thought it would fit right into this section anyway!
BBC2/ Mondays 8pm/ It isn't easy to be green!
Fab programme!
They also have a good website

Saw this on telly a while back. Terribly noble and middle class 'darling'. Lucky they have a stack of money to start off with. I'm afraid not much of what I saw would help 99% of people in Britain 'go green' . Not many people can afford such a large property in the countryside as theirs and probably not many would want to live out in the sticks anyway.

I think what people (most who are in terraced housing) would like to know is when will things get to the stage where they can pop down to Homebase and buy a REASONABLY priced solar panel/windpower kit (for example) that has fitting included with the price! Then we might have a real chance of seeing the UK slowly turn at least a faint tinge of green.

They do at B&Q.....how good they are is debatable

3andnomore · 28/11/2006 20:04

Well, I agree, they obviously got the pennies behind them, lol....BUT I thought it was still good viewing and interesting and all that, iykwim!
And on that website I linked to they have some good links , there might be somehting for us "normal" people that we could do!
I would love those solar pannels, too

Hi Katymac, The site did look better than the programme. Fancy a lecture on '21st Century Sustainable Living'? .....one day (will solve all ones problems!!) at £165-00. I mean, please, it's a money making scam. Granted, people are looking for information and I guess this is the first programme to look at sustainable living. Unless we include the Good Life!

Btw, a solar panel will set you back about £1000 and unfortunately they don't produce enough energy to pay back. They need to get more efficient and the price needs to come down about half before payback will happen over their 25-30 year lifespan. I got 30 of them put onto the school I work at and have monitored them for 2 years now.

Sorry, the last posting was mean to be addressed to '3andnomore' !

Katymac · 29/11/2006 07:46

But solar HW is much cheaper & better ...right?

worldgonewild · 29/11/2006 10:11

Tbh I don't know much regards solar heated water systems but, yes normally this comes out better.

Watched this show a couple of times last year.

Totally unrealistic for 99% of the population here so I found it completely uninteresting.

What's so hard about having stacks of money to go green?
