My ds is 4 weeks old and i have just been using water and olive oil to wash him. however, he's a sicky baby and often has cheesy hair...
i am looking for natural baby shampoos etc but they're pretty expensive. Wondered if anyone could recommend anything or better still have a recipe to make my own shampoo or babywash.

Try this website for a recipe for babywash nappylady look at practical nappy tips, what to clean baby with, or try weleda look at body therapy and then babycare range or twinkle which has shampoos and bodywashes that don't have quite as many chemicals in as those in the supermarkets. I have never washed my 5 month old's hair and my 3 year olds hair only gets washed at the most once a week unless it is really dirty with food or mud etc and neither have greasy smelly hair, my dd's hair is actually very shiny and in excellent condition.

thanks humphrey. am trying the nappy lady's recipe, including reusable wipes - it has certainly made nappy changing a much speedier event.
will check out weleda.

We didn't use anything to "wash" E with until she was quite old, and we regularly put customers off from buying stuff for little babies, even though it is very gentle and natural.

They don't really need soap type stuff until they are quite old.

I possibly wouldn't use olive oil though - the baby massage lady who works for us says that it is too heavy for a baby's skin and that you are better off using a good quality organic sunflower oil as it won't block the pores.
