help with my central heating pleeeeeese

Help! Hi there i have also just moved house and renting - i have no thermostat on the wall like my previous place, where i kept it at a constant temp. Have been reading the threads from everyone about thermostat valves on the raidiators (but these were posted a few years) - i have these and was wondering if it is better for me to have my heating on all day or i'm able to programme my heating to come at 3 seperate times during a 24hr period. At the moment i'm programming the heating to come on in the early hours, then on at 7.00am other than that i'm just using button that will bring the heating on for 1hr each time it's pressed. I'm on pre-payment meters so any advice would be grateful - my partner feels the cold more than me - but it's over powering sometimes for me

I heard some advice on here to try both methods for 24 hours each, taking meter readings start and end, to work out what's best value in your situation.
I have a thermostat set to different temperatures through the day (fancy pants boiler system), so my gas usage is very low. I also have a duvet that stays on the back of the sofa for chilly evenings, so I can keep the thermostat at 16C even for the "hot" setting.

Iv been doing a lot of research on this lately as Im worried about heating bills :/ We moved into our house in Feb this year and a pre-payment meter was installed which I hated! It was costing us around £100 per month for gas and we would only have the heating on for around an hour in the morning and 2 in the evening and it was freezing!

I now have a normal meter installed and have been looking for ways to use less gas but still have the house nice and warm all the time as baby is due in 2 weeks.

Im doing a test now, taking readings and keeping heating on a low setting all the time ensuring my radiators are turned to the right numbers as we dont have a thermostat. Im going to check the useage and then try it again but have the heating on a different intervals/times to see how I get on.

Im finding keeping it on a lower setting for longer is working out better tho rather than having it on high for an hour then off for a few etc.
