Is using fabric to wrap presents a stupid idea?

I have a pair of old kids curtains which is ripped and so can't be sold or donated. I'm thinking of chopping it up to use instead of gift wrap since it puts it to use and it will last for years. Will it take the fun out of the unwrapping for the DCs (the whole ripping the paper thing)?

isn't it quite common in Japan?
bit foggy but I'm sure somewhere has special present wrapping bags.
Sounds like a nice tradition to start for your family if they associate the material with getting nice stuff!

Many years ago my dc received presents in Italy from friend and I was amazed how beautiful and wonderful they appeared, wrapped in material with lace ribbons-children loved them too, go for it!

Great idea - you could add some trim/ribbon to make it extra special.

I know I'd lvoe it if I received a gift wrapped like that.
