Was thinking about investing in some of these as they seem to be the cheapest about at £22.75 for 4 light pads and 4 regular pads and a storage pouch.

Has anyone had any experience and what did you think?

If yoou know of any other brands tahat are not rediculously over priced please let me know :)

I've got that set, was very pleased with them and in fact bought a second set so didn't need to worry about running out. Make sure the light pads are definitely in a different colour as you do need the regular ones (with the waterproof liner) for anything other than start/end days IME.

I'd say they're excellent value, and the woman who makes them is very good to deal with.

I don't use them so much now, only because by the power of MN I am a mooncup convert Grin

Thanks Taakver, I did think about a Mooncup but never got on very well with tampons, was always panicking they'd get lost or summit Hmm :o

Well . . . not trying to convince you, but despite using washable towels for about 20 yrs, and being a real tampon hater (never ever managed to take to them) I'm now completely converted after a few months to the Mooncup Grin

Having said that the Moonrabbits towels are great, I think they're definitely better than the ones I had before, ignoring the fact that they're much cheaper than others.

nannyl · 04/02/2011 12:37

i have used moonrabbits and was very impressed

just make sure you get the waterproof liner as i opted out (on some panty liners) and IMO it is essential!

also use a mooncup.

mamadiva · 04/02/2011 12:49

Ooh now you have me thinking...

My period generally can be anything from really heavy to practically nnn-existant month to month, so which would you advise?

Also does the mooncup not get stuck, probably a bit minging but because it's vaccumey I have always wondered if it make sa shlurp noise on the way out Blush:o

That I have to say always puts me off and what about at nighttime?

SOrry for questions but now I'm considering that too.

It doesn't get stuck - it's vacuumey but you break the seal with a finger, if it really gets stuck you can always push it out - it's a lot smaller than a baby's head! :)

They do sometimes slurp on the way out! Grin It's not that loud though. I've used mine loads in public toilets and never felt self conscious about noises.

They cope really well with different flows. You can even put it in a day or two before your period just in case as no risk of TSS like with tampons. I sometimes use mine when I'm ovulating as I have a lot of discharge.

I can use mine overnight but if you didn't want to, you could always use pads then. Or even use both! A combination works well for me. I have some washable pads as well as a mooncup.

Thistledew · 04/02/2011 13:07

Mooncup is truly great. It is so much less hassle than pads or tampons. I have heavy-ish flow- used to have to change a super tampon every 3-4 hours but find with a mooncup I only have to empty it morning and evening so can do it at home in my own bathroom.

You can start using one as soon as you think you are due. It doesn't matter if you have not actually come on because they do not dry you out like a tampon. They are good for light days at the end for the same reason. They are just as good for night as for day.

The best thing is not having to remember to buy/ carry with you any pads or tampons. You really cannot feel it once it is in so far more than any other type of San pro you just put it in and forget about it.

mamadiva · 04/02/2011 13:11

hmmmm... I think I may chance it.

Right sizing! I am 24 and had an EMCS, only got to 4cms dilated (4 and a half years ago) do I get teh small or large one?

And where is the cheapest place to buy from?

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 04/02/2011 13:17

Probably the size B then. I got mine from a local cloth nappy shop and they did me a discount as I bought the washable pads at the same time :) Maybe worth trying to find a deal like that somewhere or a local shop who sells both?

BertieBotts · 04/02/2011 13:18

Also, I think you can send the mooncup back to manufacturers if you don't get on with it after 3 months.

mamadiva · 04/02/2011 13:22

Ooh I think I have changed my mind just seen a few threads about it getting syuck Shock

Think I may stick with pads then...

It can't get stuck - there's nowhere for it to go! The only time I have ever had trouble removing it is when I'm constipated (sorry TMI) and DS is running around my ankles asking me to crush his teeth Hmm - I left it and went back to it an hour later when DS was in bed and it was fine.

BertieBotts · 04/02/2011 13:30

Um, brush his teeth... Blush

mamadiva · 04/02/2011 13:32

LOL there is a thread on here where a few people said they were binning their's because it felt like they were giving themselves a DIY hystorectomy Confused

I have ordered pads this montha nd see how I get on then next month think again about the mooncup and do some proper research into it, TBH I think I would use pads at night anyway as I am a paranoid freak sometimes :o

Thank you though.

Haha I never even noticed that :o

When I first went onto the washable sanitary pads I found those popolini ones to be the cheapest. They came in a pack of 5 in a washable mesh bag and they have 2 inserts - so you can have 2 or 1 or no inserts in according to how heavy you are at that time.

I've since got velour and soft minkee fabric ones which are lovely.

mamadiva · 05/02/2011 11:38

Well i ordered my pads last night and got some funky designs (yes, yes I know who sees them :o) and am now quite excited about getting them and using them of course Hmm

Will u0pdate how I get onw ith them! Any tips?
