Good waterproof overtrousers for cycling in?

Any good suggestions - preferably not too expensive :)

Sick of wet knees in my old pair - they used to be good, but they were handmedowns even when I first had them, and are thoroughly worn out now . . .

I used to get too hot cycling in waterproof trousers so just wore quick-drying lycra leggings.

Can't you get some new ones the same make as your old pair?

Needs to be overtrousers really as I'm generally cycling to/from work (on a field, not a nice office with showers & changing rooms!).

Old pair are Lowe Alpine, and unfortunately looking at them I think replacements the same are about £100 (quite possible given who passed them on to me) and I don't think I run to that.

There seem to be various ones for around £40 which would be ok, but its figuring out which are the most waterproof.

Have you tried Mole Valley Farmers, somtimes they do cheaper waterproof overtrousers. I always tend to get sweaty in the cheaper ones. I have a pair of aqua tex [or some such] which I wear on my motorbike, breathable but waterproof and light.

Many thanks kellestar, I'll have a look. I've just bought a very cheap pair (£7) from the farmers co-op for the moment which I'll use for working in, but will do for now esp in the cooler weather. A friend also suggested Altura which I think aren't too pricey so will look at them too when I go near a bike shop.

Aldi are doing some from this Thursday. See here. Aldi stuff is often quite good for the money, but admittedly they are very cheap, so might not work well.

how about one of those big poncho things?

i use the aldi lycra stuff, it is v. good. those trousers are worth a punt for a tenner. they do look quite shiney though
