is it better to go to this or stay away?

someone i only met once passed away recently in tragic circumstances. we work for the same organisation and said organisation is holding a rememberence service, of sorts, for the individual in question. As i only started working there a few months ago and don't know anyone very well, I'm not sure whether i'll seem mawkish if i go, or indifferent if i don't. What would you do?

I'd go I think. Whenever I've been to funerals or remembrance services, people have always appreciated a 'good turn-out'. The focus won't be on you but if you're feeling awkward you can say to people that you wished you'd had more opportunity to get to know the person and they'll probably enjoy telling you what he/she was like to work with.

thanks for that. i think you're right, actually. i really do wish i'd known her better.

Go, but sit near the back discreetly.
