Odontoid fracture in elderly Mum

Can anyone give me some advice or share their experiences of this. It’s happened to my Mum, she is 87 and has arthritis and several joint replacements but she got about and went shopping, met friends for coffee and to her social group.

In A&E they said it’s to be managed with a neck brace for 12 weeks with transfer to a rehab hospital. Then that changed and they were trying to send her home with carer visits (I refused as she isn’t safe to be alone yet) and this wasn’t what the Consultant specified.

She lives alone in a flat so no worries about stairs but I’m concerned about reducing the chance of falls etc.

Id be so grateful for any advice anyone can give me, I feel like I’m trying to become an expert in a whole new area.
