The Archers, - elderly care storyline

In case anyone is interested, Radio 4's The Archers currently has a storyline running of a widow Carol Tregorran (sp?) with a daughter who lives far away. The daughter is trying to get her Mum to accept more external help but is being met with intransigence. It is interesting listening to both points of view.

As a compare and contrast they are also following Bert Horrobin who lives with his daughter and her family, with other close family nearby, and everyone rallying around.

Interesting @TeenToTwenties

Will definitely follow where this goes. Interesting they have chosen a daughter living far away. Presumably for a reason.

Listening with interest. It’s almost as if the script writer is a Cockroach Cafe regular.

Maybe Carol and Bert will hook up though, given Bert’s search for a girlfriend.

Avid listener and fan of the archers here and also listening with interest. I’m having a very challenging time with my DPs at the minute but live incredibly close and am trying to navigate the ‘carol’ take on aging/acceptance, etc. despite them moving to more suitable accommodation (today!). Anyone would think I’ve forced them in to it but they keep saying they ‘couldn’t wait to move’ and yet their words/actions towards me are very far from that. DM has been vile to me yet again today. It’s soul destroying.

I'm a long time Archers listener too. I'm finding it horribly accurate. I hope they keep the Carol storyline going for a while and don't have a quick and easy solution.

I think they might use Carol as one of those 'cautionary tales' - 'the old lady who wouldn't accept help and the terrible fate that lead to'.

I write this in bed at DPs' house waiting for delivery later of a fridge freezer so my Dad will no longer have to bend down to the under counter fridge. They accept help but still mainly reactive not proactive.

Bert, btw, has moved out to live with his execrable son Clive - a scumbag who has apparently taken to clean living and meditation. Tracy and Susan don’t think this arrangement will last many days, but who knows?
