Brother and I have LPA for dad’s health and wealth. He is physically healthy, but memory issues, and is waiting for dementia diagnosis.

He lives in the family home 300 miles away, still enjoys going to the local church. Does not always remember about taking his meds, so has carers coming in 3x a day.

He still - naturally- likes to feel independent, and likes to go shopping in Tesco. But we’ve had a couple of occasions ( someone coming to door selling stuff, someone taking dad to cash machine when he did not have cash) that concerns us.

The carers are lovely, and told me about a sort of front-loaded debit card which would limit any financial damage if dad lost card/ fell for scam.

Have been googling, but would be grateful for any recommendations.

I have got my dad a FairFx debit card, you can load any currency including sterling. Has chip and pin, can withdraw cash and use for online purchase. I have the app on my phone so can keep an eye on spend and load money onto it.
works really well
Also invested in ring doorbell which stopped a lot of cold callers and I can bet anyone who does knock. We put up signs saying no cold callers plus warnings on CCTV
also put in Truecall telephone system as my dad was getting tricked over phone. You set up list of approved calls and all others get a message asking them to call my mobile if genuine. Lifesaver!
my dad similar to yours, still independent but too trusting! Unfortunately there are a lot of nasty people happy to con older people

Thanks, the CCTV is a good one, will investigate!

Barclays gave FIL a debit card which has a low maximum daily atm allowance, £100 if i recall. Also it's not contactless, it can't be used online and can't be used over the phone. He can use it as chip and pin, again with a low maximum daily allowance of £100.
He got himself in all sorts of financial mess over the phone and online, also kept losing card, which was dangerous when it was contaclsss. Speak to his banks vulnerable customers team.
