I am going through a terrible time with council in Scotland. Mum admitted June 2024 and self funded for a very short period. House sale went through and from this I was owed £3000 for my fathers funeral which I transferred to my account and provided proof of both me paying funeral from my account and receipts. £10,000 was held by lawyers until proof of title could be established. When it was established I sent this directly to care home finance team. Council now almost 2 years later are asking for my bank statements, which I feel is an overreach (they carried out a financial assessment approved in August and were happy with proof of funeral costs). I have sent proof of the £10,000 to them 3 times and they keep asking for same information over and over, which I have escalated to a stage1 formal complaint. She is now funded by council but I pay her bill each month from the little pension she has. They are trying to force me to pay the difference in tariff income for the £10,000. 6 different people from council have asked for this, they haven't a clue what they are doing! Any advice as I am having sleepless nights even though I have been fully transparent.
