Just out of interest, what are your elderly parents care home fees?

My mother moved into a care home in August 2024, the cost per week (as a self funder £945) Last April the fees went up to (£1,010) per week. In the last week the fees have gone up to (£1,050) per week. It's an excellent place, her room is lovely and well furnished, great carers too who look after her so well.
It genuinely feels like our second home.

In all honesty , never thought we'd make it to this latest fees increase. She's been on end of life care for the last 6/7 weeks , but has remained stable, although she's really frail and weak.
And so we've entered this new round of fees.

I think we're very lucky that her fees are in this region close to £1,000 per week .
How are others faring?

Of course they are it's a private business and we did need them.

£1,075 pw, residential home. Cannot fault it.

@Netcurtainnelly I was responding to this. If you take even a quick look at the info on the link, which is pretty easy reading, you'll see there is more to it than private business making money.

A nurse from my mum's care home rang me to tell me about applying for CHC. You really need to look into this. Good luck.

@LoafofSellotape thank you for your reply. We did apply for CHC and we were successful.....it ran from April 27th for the remainder of my mother's life.
She died on June 30th .
I'm just sitting here thinking of how much i miss her voice and her presence.
The end of her life was peaceful and serene, she simply slipped away from the world.

FIL is paying £1250 a month. He has decided he won't leave his room so he's getting nothing out of it other than food and cups of tea - he won't even watch the TV. He's treating it like a punishment basically. MIL is currently in a respite placement after falling in her home which we have been told is free for this time until she has been assessed - no idea what will happen then.
Haven't calculated how much it's costing us apart from this - bus fares to and from the homes(they are in different ones), cost of the upkeep of their house while they still have it and travel to and from there, MILs care home does not do laundry for them so fetching, washing, returning her clothes and also (it sounds selfish, sorry) all the stuff we're having to cancel, miss out on in our life, all the time spent on "admin" which includes querying everything. All these things cost on top of the care fees. It's relentless.

For end of life care my mum spent the last 5 weeks in a stunningly beautiful hospice with free 1:2 nursing and complete palliative care. The staff were continually perplexed as to why they were never full.

£1600 per week. Secure dementia unit in Surrey. (£6400 per month)
Worth every single penny..

Many of these fees are paid by families where the person is selling a home in the south east..

A friend's mum with advanced dementia paid similar eye watering fees... She had a large house in Oxfordshire and had been left a flat in outer London decades previously... By time she died her care fees had topped £1 million... 🙄

Sometimes fées are partially funded by CHC funding too

We found our local hospice was massively over subscribed

My Fathers fees were about 1k per week but it was a few years ago now. He had the good grace to refuse treatment for a terminal illness, he had no dementia or cognitive issues at all, just physical disabilities.

Friends Mother who had died recently was paying 2k per week for her home. She had dementia. People live to great ages in my family and there has never been cognitive issues for any of them, just physical ailments.
