Signing LPA in correct order - cheating

It must be common that donors ,attorneys ,certificate providers all live miles apart .
Do people post date their signatures to facilitate the process?
Does the OPG check for dates and signatures to match in terms of pen ink and hand writing ?

I was wondering this as I'm doing mine this month, the government one.

I guess I might have to tweak the dates as I can't be going back and forth 100 miles to get it right. It's all printed (all 44 pages) ready to be signed and posted. I didn't realise I needed a witness too until it was all printed, it has a six week deadline apparently 😬.

This had also occurred to me! I have no idea how I'm supposed to facilitate it all, especially as I'm setting it up for DH, who is in denial about being very ill.

You sign and witness it in one place, post it registered to the next people, they sign and witness it, post it in registered to the next etc

And then they get muddled even though you’ve carefully labelled it all, and think they’re being helpful and backdate the last signature to the first date on the form.

NoMumLeftBehindLiz · 21/03/2026 22:04

Or you get people to sign it and then add the dates in the right order afterwards…would be a potential solution, but certainly not one I have experience of.

We have done them for many family members. We either do it when we’re together or post them back and forth but yes, the forms need to be signed in the correct order

He might not be capable of giving this consent then??

Yes if youre poa surely you can make a journey to get the forms sorted otherwise how would you be an effective POA. I was for my day 4 hour drive away. I went every weekend in his last year of life. Because otherwise how would I have known he needed me to help?

LoveofSevenDolls · 21/03/2026 23:46

Yes, we cheated - not by much but otherwise we wouldn't have got it all signed.

Stillamum3 · 05/04/2026 01:31

I just sent the relevant pages (not the whole form) to my children to sign and date. I had emailed them a copy of the whole form first. No cheating.
