Residential home fees while in hospital

My FIL moved into a residential home and was there for only 2 weeks before he went into hospital. He was in hospital for just over 3 weeks and very sadly passed away there. It just seems so harsh that the residential home are charging full fees for the 3 weeks while he was in hospital! I can understand that they couldn't use his room, but they weren't needing to provide any care during that time.

They don’t run on fresh air unfortunately and like anything else you need to pay your bills 🤷‍♀️ if this had been a rental property or house you’d still have to pay rent and mortgage when he was in hospital so this is no different

If your concern is about care provision, they won't have been able to reduce staffing because of him temporarily not being there. It's not like they can take people who've normally got 35 hour contracts and say right, his proportionate share of that was 1.3 hours (figure made up) so you get less hours and pay this week.

Accidentally pressed send before saying sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss.

Agree with a pp who pointed out that they would have been unable to reduce staffing levels because the couldnt be sure when he would be returning.

I’m sorry for your loss, and can understand why it feels like a sting, but it’s the same as paying a mortgage or rent while you’re in hospital.
