Minor success that feels huge (elderly parents)

I care for a family member remotely. Not a parent. Hereby known as EPICF.

Complex relationship as I perceive that they weren’t there for me & my sibs when our parents died. And now I’m stuck shouldering all manner of crap as a result of hoarding, house neglect & financial chaos.

It will come as no surprise that in the chaos EPICF’s 50 year old address book got lost. I had to cobble together addresses for Christmas cards by messaging/emailing people. It mattered to do this as EPICF has lost touch through poor cognition / hoarding with old friends but really blossoms when they get in touch, and now EPICF lives in a residential environment they can have visitors.

I’m slowly working through the hoard and today I FOUND THE ADDRESS BOOK!!!

I am so happy I’m doing a celebration dance and telling you lot!!

absolutely this.

fwiw I wouldn’t call that a minor success, I would call it pretty life-changing for your EPYCF.

Well done. The hoarding thing is so tough to sort through, especially if you work or have to fit it around other things. It has taken me almost 12 months of sorting through as much as I can to be confident enough that if house clearance came in, I wouldn't be getting rid of anything important.

OMG, that is fantastic. Well done you! Photograph every page before you hand it over in case it vanishes again. Keeping in touch is so important for elderly people.

Aw, well done and I bet the EPYCF was delighted too. x
